James Graham Brown Foundation

Brand Identity

As the largest private foundation in Kentucky, The James Graham Brown Foundation serves as a catalyst for transformational change throughout the state.

When Black & White was asked to create a new brand for the organization, we made a transformational change of our own.

Old brand identity:

As the Foundation prides itself on collaborative partnerships with its grantees that extend well beyond just “providing funds”, the new identity needed to be more reflective of that.

A new brand fitting of the impact the Foundation has on communities across Kentucky.

New brand identity:

The new brand conveys not only the humanistic qualities of the Foundation and its work, but also one of momentum and energy.

A new website was also developed to provide a more holistic view of the Foundation and capture the spirit of the new brand strategy centered around exponential change.

We photographed the Foundation staff and featured them throughout the site to accentuate the people behind the organization.

A fully interactive grants database was also created to allow easy access to past grant activity.

“Our branding exercise resulted in a new identity and website that provide the community with a clear understanding of our strategy and efforts to make Kentucky a better place. Because they took the time to get to know us and our objectives, they were able to help us effectively distill our messaging and capture the essence and scope of the Foundation. Black & White played an integral role in making that a reality.”
